RQI Investors, a quantitative equity manager, has launched a new emerging markets fund and appointed four investment professionals. The RQI Emerging Markets Diversified Alpha Fund was backed by seed investment from a major Australian superannuation fund.

The fund uses various data sources to identify alpha opportunities while focusing on risk management. It aims to deliver long-term capital growth and income, outperforming the MSCI Emerging Markets Index by 2 percent per annum with similar risk levels.

Andrew Francis, chief executive of RQI Investors, said: “The decision by a major client to seed our Emerging Markets Diversified Alpha strategy, together with the award of new mandates, are strong endorsements of our investment capabilities.”

The firm has appointed four investment and research professionals, bringing the total team to 25 individuals. John Conomos joins as investment director from Macquarie Group, where he spent 22 years in various roles.

Dr Chang Hwan Sung joins as a senior quantitative portfolio manager, with responsibilities across RQI Investors’ Global Value and Diversified Alpha strategies. Sam Machen and James Sutherland also join the firm as a quantitative research developer and quantitative researcher, respectively.
