Visa has introduced a new AI-powered service designed to help banks offer conversational financial guidance inside their own mobile banking apps. The Visa AI Financial Assistant is a value-added service that lets financial institutions deploy personalized insights and action tools without custom development, according to the company’s announcement.

More than 66% of American consumers who have used generative AI now turn to it for personal financial advice, Visa’s survey data shows. At the same time, consumers view banks as the most trusted institutions for safeguarding personal data, with 85% saying they would share more data if their bank offered a clear AI value proposition.

How the AI assistant works inside banking apps

The AI assistant is designed to operate directly within a bank’s own mobile banking app, using the cardholder’s transaction history and real-time data. It delivers proactive monthly spending summaries, answers natural-language questions like “Where did I spend the most on dining last month?” and lets users take actions such as locking a card or setting alerts directly within the conversation.

Future planned enhancements for the service include the ability to connect spending insights with subscription management through a feature called Enhanced Subscription Manager. The system is informed by the company’s global network of more than 300 billion annual transactions, combining cardholder behavior with the financial institution’s own data.

Banks have been slow to integrate AI into their consumer-facing tools, often relying on third-party apps that lack the same level of trust and security. The company’s approach avoids that by letting banks keep the experience under their own brand and within the secure environment of the existing banking app—a move that leans on the established relationship rather than forcing users to a new interface.

Part of a broader digital banking platform

The AI Financial Assistant is the latest component of Visa’s Digital Issuer Solutions, a full suite of services that includes tools for digital card display, in-app provisioning, and subscription management. These institutions can also connect their own frequently asked questions and documents via deep links, so the AI assistant can answer questions about loan benefits or savings account options.

While individual capabilities can be deployed separately through Visa’s Digital Enablement SDK, the new assistant acts as a central chat-based layer that ties together all existing and new features as they come online. Banks can white-label the service, meaning cardholders see it as a native part of their digital banking experience and interface.

The company says the AI assistant operates under its own AI and data governance standards.

Strong security and fraud protections are baked in.

It will be available to U.S. financial institutions for pilot in August 2026, with a global rollout planned after that date.
