WisdomTree U.S. Quality Growth ETF (QGRW) targets megacap tech firms; its High Dividend counterpart (DH) seeks high-yield stocks.

Investors often separate growth-focused equities from dividend-paying stocks, yet a combined approach can deliver both capital gains and steady income. This approach is based on the idea that growth and income are not mutually exclusive, and that a combination of the two can provide a more balanced investment portfolio.

How the two ETFs complement each other

The WisdomTree U.S. Quality Growth ETF (QGRW) concentrates on megacap technology firms, while the WisdomTree U.S. High Dividend ETF (DHS) steers clear of the so-called Magnificent Seven, favoring defensive sectors such as financials and healthcare. They aim to smooth performance when market leadership shifts between growth rallies and value cycles.

Performance and structure of the growth vehicle

QGRW manages about $1.86 billion and marked its third anniversary in December. Over that period it generated roughly 140% return, outpacing the 112% delivered by the S&P 500 Growth Index. This outperformance is a result of the ETF’s focus on quality growth stocks.

The ETF tracks the WisdomTree U.S. Quality Index, holding roughly 100 large- and mid-cap U.S. companies. It launched in December 2022 with an expense ratio of 0.28%. The index is designed to identify companies with strong growth potential and financial health.

The index begins with the 500 biggest U.S. firms, ranks them on an equally weighted blend of growth and quality metrics, then retains the top 100. Holdings are weighted by market cap and rebalanced in June and December.

Technology accounts for 51.67% of the portfolio; the remaining 41.67% spans communication services, consumer discretionary, industrials and healthcare. As of October 26, the three largest positions are Nvidia (12.29%), Microsoft (10.25%) and Google (7.1%). These companies are all leaders in their respective fields and have strong growth potential.

Year-to-date performance stands at 15.44%, beating the category average of 10.42%. Over the past twelve months the fund posted 16.81%, a 5.83% edge over the 10.98% category mean.

Structure and results of the dividend-focused vehicle

DHS carries an expense ratio of 0.38% and has been available since 2006. It follows the WisdomTree U.S. High Dividend Index, which targets the nation’s highest-yielding stocks. The ETF is designed to provide a steady income stream to investors.

The methodology deliberately avoids the Magnificent Seven, instead tilting toward financials, healthcare, consumer staples and energy. This results in a broader, lower-cost basket that currently offers a yield of 3.18% and shows consistent dividend growth.

For the current year the ETF returned 17.61%, and its twelve-month gain reached 19.87%, surpassing the growth-oriented counterpart.
